MediaCityUK Phase II: A Place to Live, Work, Study & Play

MediaCityUK is the place to be. Over 7,000 people live, work and study on-site and over 250 businesses including BBC, ITV and Kellogg’s call MediaCityUK home. ITV’s multi-million-pound entertainment attraction, celebrating TV blockbuster I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! will open at The Watergardens development at MediaCityUK this year, adding to the rich leisure scene that already includes an award-winning and internationally recognised arts centre, restaurants, cinema and lifestyle outlet.

Since the first phase of development in 2006, Salford Quays has boomed. MediaCityUK has become the heart of Salford Quays, attracting millions of tourists per year, creating new jobs and become a home to hundreds of residents. MediaCityUK has become a community of employees, residents, students and tourists that populate the large walkways and tall buildings. Due to the success of the retail, leisure and residential facilities, it was no surprise that the Peel Group and Legal & General decided to inject a further £1bn into expanding the area in 2016. Since then, the next phase has also received an additional cash injection of £292m to further along the development.

MediaCityUK Phase II Community CGI Projection

MediaCityUK Phase II will see more businesses, residents and tourists flock to the area with increased retail and leisure offerings, adding to the mass of bars and restaurants already populating the centre. The development is expected to span across 10 years and will provide the 5 acres of public space with more apartments, hotels, offices and even a new metro-link station; set to open over the next year adjacent to the Imperial War Museum North and the Coronation Street studios. This connection will connect Manchester City Centre, MediaCityUK and to the Trafford Centre, opening up the travel options for residents and tourists of the area which will make Christmas shopping and navigating the Outlet Mall significantly easier.

As MediaCityUK grows into its next phase it will also cater for and be considerate of many different lifestyles, including the opening of its first entirely vegan restaurant. The backdrop of Salford Quays welcomes this new expansion and even more so the community that it will be expanding.
